The "someone" was of course me, as I assisted Ron and Paul at my last Weekend Workshop here in my studio. "Talking to myself" is an integral part of the way I work.Mike, when you're doing a drawing do you apply the background, the actual structure as it is! Or do you let your mind wander in your own imaginary world and draw your own interpretation of what you see? I'm now getting into a routine of talking my way through the drawing as I seem to have heard someone else doing and feel as though I'm in the actual drawing, weird but I seem to be able to get a better understanding of where I am, what I want and how to get there, all in all a better intuitive feel for the drawing! Just loving the ability, and freedom it gives me in feeling as though I'm part of the drawing!
Drawing is a fun and creative pursuit. Why else would we do it? So, developing the ability to live in the world you're creating is all part of the process.
As I read Ron's email, one particular drawing immediately sprung to mind: And in particular, one small part of it. This little sunlit field will always remain special to me. Perhaps it reminded me of the set-aside land off the end of our own field, where I used to lay in the long grass on a morning walk and let out two German Shepherds play. For whatever reason, I'm always overcome with a feeling of calm and peace when I see that part of the drawing. Laying back and watching the crow flying overhead.
I'm so pleased to hear that Ron had discovered the same delight in his work. The more you are involved, the more your imagination flows, and the more you pull from your store of memories.
I can feel a "Creating your own world" video coming on... So, I'll just finish here to make some notes...
