Bernadetta - pyrography(discontinued)

Post by PogArt-Ttoo »

Poplar plywood , A3 (12"/16")

Bernadetta is my wife's sister, she's also a mum of Hana (I'm drawing my niece Hana too often, lol).
Now it's time to draw her mum ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
It's going to be a top secret commission, it's meant to be a birthday gift (next month).
I've chosen this lovely photo, where she's wearing beautiful flowers on the head.
To match the face features and those flowers perfectly, I did trace the outlines.
I'm very sorry for barely noticeable trace line, I used 2H pencil...
I hope you may enjoy the process ๐Ÿ‘

*This is going to be a bit different piece to the previous ones ...
I'm going to use the graphite pencils in advance.
No, I don't know where or how yet, it will happen on its own.
I do rely on my sense of intuition, in most of the cases...

Today's update ...
I'm continuously improwing shadings all around, and I've started working on flowers to see how it goes.

I know this is a WIP so possibly what I'm about to mention will be changed later, but...
Artur-002.jpg
She has lovely smiling eyes that hasn't yet been caught. I think it's because of the two points I've arrowed. 1: where there's a peak and, to its left, a more downward slope. And 2, where there's an upward curve. The same applies to the other eye too.

And - this I think just a visual anomaly - her nose seems a little broad. I know it's accurate but I think the lighter right-hand half in the photo makes her nose appear to be more slim. Where you're darker burning widens it. Also, at 3 there's a very subtle upwards curve that divides the tip of the nose from the nostril, where you line is almost straight. It's a tiny difference but I think it affects the overall perceived width.

Other than that - I know it's going to be quite remarkable because it's you on the other end of the tool :)

Wow!
I'm so exited receiving your kind attention to this top secret portrait - it's meant to be a birthday gift, so your forum Mike is the only place I dare to post updates ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

I'm amazed the way you do care of a tiny details Mike...
This explains me why some artists are great artists, where the others can not succeed as much ...
To be honest, I didn't bother too much, that the little curve on the nose is vanished, or the eyes aren't very well matching the curves compared to the original photo ... ๐Ÿค”

That's right, my portrait might lack of her lovely face mimik because what I've done.
Those tiny details may make a huge difference indeed.
Thank you!

I will not forget about your kind advice Mike, and I'll try focus more, and I will try to start looking after all those very subtle and unique things from now on.

It's wonderful pointed advice !
Thank you once more!

I have corrected the nose yesterday, as best as I could.
Subtle things - but huge improvement!

I haven't corrected the eyes,though...
I think the eyelashes may do the job, if I manage to make them just the right way...

Thank you for the lesson!

I think you're right - you can use the mascara, eyeliner, poster paint - or whatever ladies use for highlighting their eyes - to shape the top line correctly. And the shade cast by the top lid on her eyeball should help too.

I just have this strong feeling that the downward slope of the top of the left-hand eye is really important to her happy face.
