Okey dokey! Take it one step at a time. By all means read through it first but don't expect all of it to make sense.
Reading is OK, but nothing teaches you like experience. So, begin again and try out everything in the order you find it.
Anything you don't understand, ask here. As you experiment and try things out, post the results here so we can help you.
And you'll find a lot of information in the book is useful for all manner of media, not just pencil.
