New procreate brushes
Hello Laurene, what do you think of the new pencils? For me I’ve decided to stop following utube procreate channels. I’ve decided I’m going to start taking charge of my own creativity. The procreate instruction app has it all! I want to develop the habit of practicing instead of jumping around. Oh yes, I wanted to ask you if you have screen cover for your iPad that acts as the feel of drawing on paper? Thank you, Laura
Re: New procreate brushes
Hi Laura.
Yes, I do use a screen protector. I use Paperlike, which I bought on Amazon. You have to be very careful though to get the right size for your screen, because different iPads have different screen sizes. It’s a little fiddly to apply, but it’s been worthwhile for me.
I have mixed feelings about being bombarded with sooooo many brushes!!! Honestly, it’s overwhelming. I just zero in on those that interest me, concentrate on those, and ignore the rest. I’ve been exploring the pencil brushes, and comparing them to a pencil brush that I made. I learned to draw with graphite pencils from Mike (book, workshops and forum) using the papers he sells on his website which have very little texture, like Conqueror. Therefore I prefer digital brushes that mimic that experience.
I worked up a little chart. My choices would be the Scopus or Waratah brush. They feel like mine because there is very little graininess. If you’re used to drawing on textured paper, you might choose some of the other brushes.
Hope that helps.

Re: New procreate brushes
Oh this chart is so cleaver. Yes, because of all the new brushes I had to pull back from the utube creators regarding procreate. Mike is the only one I follow because his videos are so enlightening. Never in my life have I found someone as knowledgeable and helpful as him. All through my education I did art. Some years back I spend 2 years taking art from the junior college but felt like I was just playing and not really learning. If I see someone who says “learn how to learn such and such really fast and easy” I turn away. I actually figured out I need to take notes and watch 2 or 3 times to grasp what Mike is talking about. I think I’ve been a lazy learner thinking intuitively it should come. But I did learn that before you can break the rules you need to know the rules. All this to say I’ve never learned the rules. I’m going to get Mike’s art book (the one with the big dog on it). I have so many different art supplies that I don’t use because I don’t really know how to use them properly. But I went through the art supplies on our website here and the paper is what I will get after I’ve received my book. I hear my 3 outside feral cats (I got them fixed and vaccinated) knocking on my screen door so I’m off to feed them.
Thank you for getting back with me. Cheers, Laura
