Re: Procreate
Hi Laura. It’s so nice to meet you. Welcome! I look forward to sharing Procreate tips with you!
Please feel free to post some of your work. I’d love to see it! The idea is to help one another by exchanging methods, or asking for help at times because Procreate does so much, it’s impossible to know all of the different ways to use it.
See you on the forum!

I am unable to send anything because it says it is too large so I get an error message. I’m working with Mike to learn how to get USA media to work with this website. I would love to show you what I have created.

Re: Procreate
Oh my a few things came over. I’m so encouraged now.
Re: Procreate
Well, your drawings are charming! You can tell by my avatar that I’m a cat lover too
. Those 2 smaller cats, the pink one and the green one, have expressions that are instantly recognizable by any cat owner. The pink one is completely absorbed by his (her?) play, and the green one reminds me of those intense stares that can only mean one thing…I’m hungry!
I think that you’re drawing on your coloured pencil experience. That’s great! The beauty of Procreate is that you can adapt from watercolour painting, oil painting, coloured pencil, markers, charcoal, graphite, and I’m probably forgetting quite a few other art mediums.
The only comment I can offer is that there are 2 rules people usually follow in wildlife art. Don’t have anything come out of the animal’s head, or out of the other end either
. Of course, in fantasy art, anything goes and you can disregard what I’m saying here. Often, just offsetting the object a little bit and maybe following the stem down in this case so that we see a bit of it behind the cats, will give your drawing a feeling of depth or 3 dimensions. It’s a question of style of course, and as artists we have license to create our own world. That’s the fun of of it!
The second artwork is very interesting. I love the canvas texture!! I feel like I want to step into this scene and smell the flowers as I watch the birds soar. I love it!

Re: Procreate
Hello back, thank you for your feedback on nothing coming out of the head or the ‘other end’ that’s something I’m just now learning. Here is one I’m working on but I have to set it aside to see where I take it. Oh, PS I love cats. I rescue the feral cats to get them vaccinated and spayed or neutered

Re: Procreate
This is in Procreate? I love it!! I wouldn’t change a thing so far, and I’m looking forward to where you take it.
As for sticks coming out of animals, it’s really just something you will hear many artists say. For example, let’s say you have the perfect reference photo of a parrot perched on a branch in a tree. The pose is perfect, the lighting sets off the parrot’s colours to their most brilliant, the photo is in excellent focus so that you can see every detail, but there’s a small branch behind the bird that projects from his eye, or his head ( or elsewhere), or that seems to stab him in the heart,,,
Nothing forces us to copy a reference perfectly if it doesn’t seem right to our eyes. We can correct all of the above by simply moving or eliminating the branch. I just follow my instincts with this sort of thing.
EDIT: Just for future reference Laura, it’s best to start a new topic when you want to post new work. This makes it easier for everyone to follow. For the same reason, I would also title each new topic with the subject matter, for example, kitties and flowers etc…
