Where's the beef?

These little drawings are great fun. All told, they take about 12 -16 hours or so from concept sketches to final product, So two days of work essentially. Not long enough to get bored, but just long enough to enjoy!

'Where's the Beef' is based on a well known product. We had this often as a kid and I still actually enjoy it occassionally! Can you see the image of the bull head in the tin?

I can see this is the result of years of observation. Knowing where to place the shadows and highlights comes from thinking three-dimensionally. And that thinking doesn't result from copying, only by observation.

I love the hint of the nose denting the tin just below the label! Ad of course the super typography that adds a sense of reality to a totally weird concept.

secret... shhh... the nose dent was a serendipitous accident at first. I droped my pencil on the page and smudged it a bit so turned it into a nose shaped dent. lol.

Now, your comment about imagination has me seething. Mainly because I hear this ALL THE FRICKING TIME in class... 'I don't have your imagination'.. sigh. EVERYONE has an imgination and creative mind. It is a matter of developing it - remember 'imagination' is just putting together things you already know or experience in a new way, married with technique. For example, you 'know' what a pretty lady looks like. You 'know' what a fish looks like. You might even have references of them - marry them together and you get a mermaid! Think about where this critter lives, and you might start to do things like give her crab claws, or seaweed hair, or a brassire made of pearls... see where I am going with this?
Your skin art is highly imaginative! Develop it - you do children and people well, why not play around with faires, nixies, elves and the like? Sketch up in graphite some designs for skin, I reckon they would sell very well.

...and it just occurred to me that Art's designs are going to be superb - you just know that to be true.

Then the realisation dawns that you can only really sell that design once - locally anyway.

And then it becomes quite obvious that the initial graphite design is itself a viable product. And that leads to selling prints. And, before you know it, Art's back drawing and selling amazing artwork.... Maybe with an occasional exceedingly well paid tattoo for an international celeb. I can see it all happening now.....................

My tattoo shop is down - as you know…
Yesterday I’ve had my FIRST NEW CLIENT in my house.
He’s amazed with the tattoo and he’s sharing good vibes about me…
He says I’m hidden talent
People starting asking for tattoos
Even more than before!
I’m still unsure where it will lead me eventually, but the whole rumour around me is making me happy, because it tells me that people do appreciate what I’m doing for them
