Hi dear friends, as promised it’s short story of my first apprenticeship day…
I came as requested at 9am with all my accessories and setup packed in two bags.
I’ve met up few people already being there, two of them were young girls already on apprenticeship since beginning of the year.
They’ve started tattooing on their own at studio around 3 weeks ago…
I assume, those past months they were swiping floors, cleaning , bins.., and getting the workstations cleaning done …
I must say it’s quite a busy time, lol.
I was helping them throughout, being guided what to do, how to do, etc…
Sweating time rushing there and back

The other team members have started arriving then.
All good.
Luke came in eventually, he’s welcomed everybody, you know…
Then he’s shared in short the day plan to me.
When they’ve started serving first customers, I was wandering around, watching what they do, chatting with some, introducing myself at same time…
Then Luke took me to his office to have a chat about tattoo history, sharing some information, etc.
Then he requested me to draw few of traditional designs, roses, daggers, hearts, you know…
So I went upstairs, I’ve sat down and I’ve started drawing with my index finger tip ~ because I left my stylus home, not expecting any drawing at studio?
The drawing was terrible, I couldn’t see the cursor below the fingertip, so I was missing to connect lines properly, filling up the area was often very off …
You can imagine…
Not knowing the purpose for this exercise I was carrying on…
After about two hours (it was time consuming!!!) Luke appeared in the room asking how it’s going…
He didn’t know I have no stylus, so we’ve started discussing the finger terrible lines etc (

)
I’ve asked if this is what you was looking for, what’s the purpose for these drawings…
He said he’s not willing to tell me, I’ll find out when I’m complete those drawings…
Then we will pick two or three of them and he’ll ask me to tattoo them on the fake skin then.
Then he said alright ~ I’m going home so you are free to go as well
I’ve packed up, I went downstairs (after about 2h being absent

) and one of that girls from the morning came up making big eyes ~ where have you been?
I have sensed her attitude well…
I’ve described in short what I was doing, then I’ve said see you later to all of them and closed the door behind me…
(In short obviously, as I was trying to say goodbye to everyone etc)
Regarding her big eyes …
I bet she was expecting me being around, handy, to serve them in case they may need anything to help them with…
Instead she did see me after long time, and then I said good bye, leaving the studio at the time the Luke was leaving, where there were still people in, tattooing and working…
I was thinking about all of this, and I can tell I’m being treated different to the other members ~ it was obvious.
I wasn’t requested to stay till the studio is closed.
I wasn’t requested to be serving anyone in need, I mean, bring the tissue , empty the bin, swip the floor or make a caffe
I was given drawing task, then offered to go home early.
These two girls were forced to leave their permanent job to start apprenticeship full time at beginning of the year.
I can keep my job, and coming whenever I can (my days off).
Girls have to stay until the salon is running, even though they are tattooing as well…
They have just started tattooing people, after so many months passed by.., where Luke is mentioning that I may will start on people before the end of the year…
I assume, those girls are inexperienced beginners, who start with Luke from the very base approach to become a tattooist, where Luke can see I was drawing and painting for couple of years already…
Probably this is helping me a lot in his eyes.
He may see me as being already an artist, who needs only some guidance, introduction to become the tattooist …
Luke’s approach towards me myself is totally different then.
I don’t know how it’s possible I’m crossing with such kind and good people on my way?
Luke is looking after me at any aspect I can see.
I hope it’s not a dream.
He said he’s got a plan for me in his head, but we need to start slowly, from basics, baby steps to see what I can do and he’s promised to teach me everything in order…
Well.
It is a dream.
I’m certain it must be.
