Re: Failing to achieve darker tones

and this is important - do have a smooth and hard surface directly under your paper. This is a key point. So many times I have to tell students this - don't draw on a bouncy, cushiony surface like a pad of paper! One way I teach to get darks is to layer and layer, alternating the stroke directions ...

Re: Posting Images

Nice work. You have captured the shine of satin very well, and the geometry of ribbons too.

Have you considered doing a companion piece? an 'after' image of the same shoes after wear, showing how beat up the toes get? That could be interesting as a pair.

Re: Dogs in pyrography...

Hi Pogs,
the ear looks okay. I would google a few references though, it might need a bit of a sharper corner/fold at the top. But be careful, as once you burn it in you will be stuck with it.
You are doing a great job, with a difficult medium!

Re: Hidden Heart

Well, I didn't realize you weren't holding workshops there at this time
but Mike's videos fill the gap admirably. It isn't quite the same as one on one with him, but he will always help here on the forum!

Re: Cat Portrait in Progress

Nicely done k! Mike's suggestions really helped resolve your issues - not that they were big ones to begin with! Just refinements to an already successful work.
I bet the client was stoked! (Oz slang for chuffed, pleased, over the moon)>

Mike, you missed me because *chuckles* I'm jus' hidin' away here in the CP forum. :D ...Affinity Photo or Davinci Resolve on steroids Great programs, and a nice compliment! The little "droplet" bits remind me of horseshoe nails, although I don't think that's what they are. I don't really k...
