Laurene wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 7:35 pm This is lovely Artur! I love the soft complexion of her cheeks. I can see that it takes a lot of layering to get this effect.
You're right...
It's taking me lot of layering, and at every each one layer I'm thinking whether it's better looking or opposite ...
It is a bit too dark as well, I mean the flesh tone.
I think I like it, therefore I'm not lightening it.
Can not guess of the final look myself 😁
Thank you πŸ‘

Some recent update on this painting.
I'm using my imagination and my good taste (if I have any?!) to colour her clothes...
I'm keep the reference photo in black&white, so regarding the colour choice I'm on my own ;)
Slowly getting there ...

There's so much to love about this little cutie! The eyes are especially wonderful and the way you've modelled the eyebrows give her such a soft delicate look. I am wondering though if you will be lightening the skin tone. It may be my screen, but it does look a little dark to me. All of the facial features are masterfully done though. You're such a talented portrait artist!

Thank you Laurene for warm words...
Unfortunately not, I'm not going to lighten the flesh tone - SORRY πŸ™
I know it's dark, I know I was supposed to make it correct/lighter at earlier stages, but I did like it to be this dark... somehow πŸ€”
So I left it, and carried over...
Please bear in mind it's practice piece, and the first digital try to mix the flesh tone, apply it , deal with those face features...
I'm always following the guides given by reference photo - this time I wanted to be free, to choose the flesh tone I like - I hope you understand my will Laurene...
This piece is to let me try my pluses and minuses...
Also the colour of the hat and the jacket is my imagination only, not the reference, which I kept black and white all the time 😁
I'm just painting the way I like...
Thank you for your keen comment Laurene πŸ™‚

FINISHED
Free hand sketch.
Limited oil colour palette based on Winsor&Newton Alkyd.

I'm pleased to share the final of the portrait I was working recently.
I made the face darker to accent more the beauty of the eyes.
I left the jacket at this (a bit raw and blurry) stage, to direct more attention to the face.
I liked to made the hat in hot red colour to nicely support the girl's look, and to nicely contrast to the dark blue background as well...

My lovely niece Hana is the subject, but I was free to play with everything else, like flesh tone, dress colour and all around - with a keen permission of the parents given πŸ‘

I'm not sure if you like the way I made this portrait, I'll be more than happy to read your keen advice and comments - only then I can avoid future mistakes.
Thank you πŸ‘

She’s lovely, and as you said in your message, her parents love it. As I said earlier the way you rendered her features is brilliant. You followed your own instincts as to her skin tone and her parents love your painting so you judged it well.

This is coming along nicely Pogs. The highlights on the lips is very good. Details are coming together well.
Remember, there is no such thing as 'Girls colours'. Girls can and do wear any colour! Boys as well. The Pink/Blue thing is a marketing construct.

Cheers Linda for your time to have a look in here and post keen comment for me πŸ™‚
This painting is just meant to be a work piece, to give me some idea of how it would be to paint a portrait of the human face.
I've chosen my niece photo as a reference, because I have plenty to choose from, lol, and she is priceless model as well 😁
I was after to practice some flesh blending techniques.., shading, following the face features..., such things ...
I have also left a few things behind, just not being after to carry on improving some details...
I was focusing on the face mostly,so I didn't put as much attention to the jacket...
It's because the whole project was to give me some idea/exercise only πŸ‘
By the way her parents do like it very much, and requested the print already 😁
Thank you πŸ‘

That is what a good artist always does! Edits and improves, draws what is important and not slaveish follow a photo!

I am not surprised, it is very good!
