Is this drawing save worthy

Post by Muffit »

Hello Mike & group
Mike this is a drawing I sent you when I discovered your community and you responded back saying a lot of beginners make this type of mistake…
Can I fix this drawing or should I put it in the “to learn from” pile?

Oops this is a picture I’ve wanted to do for about 3 years but have been too intimidated to start . But just the short time I have been watching the videos from this community I can clearly see the instructions to this project are not enough nor clear enough.

...and I wouldn't. Not yet. First, it's Australian. They have weird animals and even weirder ideas about drawing. And Sunday I've got one coming to stay with me for a couple of weeks! Not an Australian Animal, a super Australian Artist - our LindasPencils! :D

Second, If this "step-by-step" is less than 300 pages long, I'd give it a miss (*). I can see a good 5 to 10 years of regular progression in that drawing, and it's not something you should attempt right now. And if you do, you'll most probably produce a good-looking drawing but not really understand much of it. It'll be a copy, not a creation.
But just the short time I have been watching the videos from this community, I can clearly see the instructions to this project are not enough nor clear enough.
That's what I guessed. It's a super drawing, but if you need step-by-step instructions to draw something like it, then it's too advanced for you right now.

* Disclaimer: I don't know the artist or the book. I'm guessing based on experience.

Oh thank you so much for this information because it makes perfect sense. I’m going to stick around and take it slow thus I won’t get discouraged or overwhelmed.
