Try to observe as well, the shape of the eyelids are not smooth rounded curves, but have flats and angles as the flesh wraps around the eyeball. As Mike says in his book, the eye is a ball shape, and understanding this can help. If you have his book he has some great stuff in it about eyes.
I often get students to first draw a marble! This helps them understand the basic 'ball' shape and how the light is reflected across the eye surface. Then it is nestled into the eye socket and held in place by the flesh. Try drawing a marble or two! And draw your own eye from a mirror as well to help practice.
