But... you can go even darker than that. And it will help your drawing.

Darker values will increase the sense of depth (I retained your original background and only adjusted the mid and foreground). It creates more contrast, and that adds more impact to your drawing - the characters have more presence.

Going darker as Mike suggests will really enhance the background on this work. And, I would also advise taking some of that darkest dark into the fur shadows as well which will really make the white hair 'pop'.

Such a lovely drawing, don't be frightened to push it just a bit further.
