Re: Indirect Indenting Experiment

Post by Mike Sibley »

Two quick observations - and thanks for adding this useful version of indirect indenting and explaining it so well.

First, the indents look very clean and sharp, but I'd like to see it used with much heavier and darker shading. It looks as though it will withstand that, but I think it needs to. In my experience, indenting tends to be most useful in areas of high contrast, for which darker values are required.

Second, I can see very thin dark lines either sides of your indents. A very similar appearance is produced on my Conqueror paper using Direct Indenting. It's a result of the indents being so deep that they throw up a crest at either side. That's very useful, because those crests pick up extra graphite and that in turn emphasises the sharpness of the edge.

So, although your indenting is indirect it certainly appears to be as useful as direct indenting with very similar results, but more control.
