trying to improve - an (my right) eye

Post by Reinhard »

I have to take the jump. This is what I am working at the moment. I try to understand skin structure better and at the same time, attend to increase my ability to creating believable tonal values.
First time drawing on vellum. Mechanical pencils .3 - .5mm. 2B, F, H, and 2H so far. Blending only with hard over soft. c&c most welcome and needed.

Hi Reinhard! I remember you well from Mike’s old forum! It will be a pleasure to see your beautiful artwork again. This study of your eye is expertly done!

Hi Reinhard! So happy you are here! This eye study is expertly done. What size is it? around A4 or so? The skin textures are beautiful, and wonderful laugh lines. Your eye looks soulful.
How are you liking drawing on Vellum? I haven't tried it and am interested to hear what you think before I do.

Very impressive 👍

I've taken the liberty of increasing the values to what I think they most probably look like.

There's a lot of remarkably skilled work in this, Reinhard. From the tiny catch-lights in the skin's tiny creases, to the shiny surface of the eyeball. Not to mention the very subtle suggestion of pores in the skin. What is there to improve? It's all beautifully modelled.
