Re: Telling Your Story

I commented on your composition in the "Gallery" section so I won't repeat it here, and some of the story that I told myself looking at it is slightly different from yours, but that's the point isn't it? Triggering the viewer's imagination is one of the great joys of producing art. Whether...

Re: Scottish Deerhounds

I'm glad you chose to ignore some of those suggestions! Some of us in North America get our impressions of the UK from watching too much Downton Abbey an other PBS/BBC period dramas! :) The more I explore your drawing Mike the more I appreciate how you composed your subjects to guide the viewer thro...

Red-tailed hawks

This was the first time I tried my hand at something more complex that a straight portrait, creating a composition of my own. As I recall, I had planned a study of the hawks face when Mike challenged me to try something a little different. The idea was to try to tell a story through a drawing. I res...

Magical and mysterious, your Early Morn at Witton Marsh draws us in and invites us to explore the scene with you. Thanks for sharing the exprience which inspired the drawing too. I think that these types of personal experiences always result in the best artwork.

Re: "Bulldog" by Mike Sibley

That may have been how you felt at the time Mike, but it certainly didn't show in your work. This is one of my favourites of yours. I never tire of looking at the subtle variations of values in that soft muzzle. Exquisitely done!

Re: Graphite horses

Hi Elaine. I do hope you finish this drawing because you've done so much beautiful work already. Mike's observation on the head collars actually made me pay closer attention to them and admire the fine work you've done there! The leather looks like leather, the metal bits look like metal, and the cl...

Hi from Canada!

Hi! When I started drawing I had the benefit of 2 wonderful forums. The first was the old Artpapa forum, and then Mike's forum with J. D. Hillberry. I learned so much from honest and supportive comments and critiques and I look forward to being part of this new forum.
