Re: Inspirational Grasses

This is really very good! Well done. My only suggestion would be regarding the second post in on the left. Your drawing has it quite light and bright, whereas the right side of the post should possibly be a bit more shaded and dark - to my eye it stands out a bit too brightly. But that is nit-pickin...

Re: Gumtree WIP

Yes, I definitely am lucky to have Linda as a teacher. snerk . I am sure Jean doesn't always feel this why - I get a somewhat pushy with her sometimes. But no pushiness needed with this work! I just sat back and watched it developed in her beautiful, painterly style. Happy Christmas today Jean - en...

Re: Gumtree WIP

Mike, you are 100% correct - this is a great drawing - and it was a pleasure for me to watch it come together each Monday night. What Picasso hasn't told you is that it was drawn on a light gray toned paper (brand unknown, about 180gms, given to all in my class) She used graphite pencils in the soft...

Re: Tonal drawing #3: California Blue oak

Thank you, Mike, and PogArt. Trees are always great fun to draw. The really important thing to understand is to NOT try to draw leaves, but rather masses of tones, minimal line work or outlines. Try and grow the tree from the base, and put in the darkest areas of mass first. Attached is a progress d...

Re: “Good and Evil” eOils study

I don't believe in using the word 'cheat'. Quite frankly, digital methods are just a new fancy pants type of paintbrush. If it your own 'hand' and mind working, it is a valid and beautiful medium to use. I am not talking direct manipulation/copy/drawing over of photo or others work, but as you are d...

Re: The DRAWSCOPE ...

I do appreciate my skill of free hand drawing a lot, just being a bit lazy practicing it enough, but I do. Not lazy, practical. As you say, you use tools especially when doing a commission to ensure features are correct first time. These tools SAVE TIME... and at our age (*ahem, my age, and my stud...

Re: The DRAWSCOPE ...

I'm not sure if you dear Linda can see any benefits of having it, but I'm keep thinking of advantage it may provide your students when practicing drawing at your class lessons? [/i] Hi Pogs! Thank you for thinking of me, you are sweet. I haven't used a Lucy for many, many years now, but it can be v...

Macro Drawing

Continuing our work with tones, this week we explored Macro drawing - taking a small area of a subject and blowing it up large. Really investigating the tones and minute details in a large way. Our chosen subject was a red capsicum (a.k.a. bell pepper)' You can see/read the full blurb about the crea...
