Re: Failing to achieve darker tones

As a complete beginner, this post poses the same question I was going to ask and also gives me some answers (yet to be applied). So I just wanted to post that it may be helpful to beginners to add something to the videos about shine and fixatives, Thanks, Brenda. Shine and fixatives? Already covere...

...or the light source is very large. Also, the light side shows no fall off of the lights as it descends the wall. I'm just going to comment on that first. You could consider the light to be large because the model was small. And because the model was small, there is very unlikely to be any fall o...

Re: Drawing Hair

Well, all good plans can sometimes fail; I'm sorry this took so long, Darby. I was ill, then recovered, but not my voice, so I couldn't make the voice-over. You have made an error with your line drawing, which is affecting what you're trying to do. So, I've covered that. Then there are two de...

I'm assuming that this is a photographic image of the actual object done with no-flash. If it's an image of your rendering of the setup, well that changes everything. That is the actual photo. And, as far as I can remember, no changes or enhancements were made. I understand your reasoning, Wayne. W...

Re: "Silent Witness"

The only thing I’m struggling with is making the canvas texture. I’m doing something wrong and can not pinpoint it just yet, so the whole piece is looking as flat as a polished surface… Mike I remember you aren’t fancy the texture on the paper, as you prefer to make the texture by yourself when nee...

...when I realized that there is no way that I can understand how to get a cast shadow under the overhang on the shadow side of the house. I re-constructed the light direction from the cast shadows on the front end and with the light coming from that direction the roof should be lighter at the bott...

They do speak Ukrainian... 😅
I can understand that.

All the best bus drivers in the UK speak Polish!

Sorry! I just couldn't resist the temptation... ;)

Re: "Silent Witness"

I was wondering what you'd say Mike, knowing you appreciate rather some sort of suggested features rather than pitch black solid background... It seems you don't mind me trying this kind of expression. Don't mind??? Of course, I don't mind. :D It would be a thoroughly boring world if we all drew in...

Re: Macro Drawing

I could get lost in this! It has so many quirky little crevices and dark spaces that it's almost spooky! :o

And I love that contrast of gnarled stem to smooth pepper.

Re: "Silent Witness"

I love how the detail within the skull is mainly suggestion, but appears to be intricately woven. It seems to be following the same plan I use for foliage: sharp foreground elements that make you believe the random shapes behind them are a part of the same structure. It's progressing wonderfully well.
