Re: What I am drawing on

I think that's wonderful that you have brought out the essence of the person! It makes it so artistic, rather then just copying a photo. Nice work!

Re: Sheltering Arms

This is a wonderfully creative work. There are a lot of parallels to explore. The hawk's claws and the woman's hands. The outspread wings and the woman's arms. You have given me a lot to think about. Hi JayS, Thank you so much for your interesting and supportive comments! This is probably the most ...

Re: Ancient Souls

A vanishing point is not always useful in landscape and nature. Whereas when drawing buildings it is a must. As Mike said it is better to draw the size you see as we don't know the true size of the left bull. However, the only way I can see this perspective construct being useful is if you had a th...

Re: Ancient Souls

Where are the shadows in the snow? and different size drifts would, I think, help. To get this definition I think of Mike's lessons on negative drawing and wonder where the shadows are? Yes, I think it does tell the story and it is defini...

Sheltering Arms

"Sheltering Arms" is a true narrative portrait of a fellow artist who startled a hawk as she was leaving the art gallery, causing the hawk to drop its prey (wren) in front of her. She cared for the wren and then set it free. This has happened to her twice at this gallery and she has also s...

Re: Ancient Souls

Hi all,
I want to thank everyone for their comments. Mike yours was very helpful, as always. I have attached the finished artwork. I did make the second muskox a female since they are smaller. Of course, knowing me, I will probably go back in 6 months or so and make changes :D

Re: Merry Christmas

I love your drawing of the BIg Horn Sheep, also (and meant to comment on it earlier)! Your portrait is wonderful and really shows such warmth of character. The expressiveness of the portrait is fantastic!

Re: Ancient Souls

So that artist could have compared the height of his steps against the published breed standard height of that type of dog. As long there is something man-made within your scene, you can almost always take measurements from it to resize other imported elements. Our only clue to scale is the two Mus...
