Re: Owls

Hey Mike

I also take heart from your comment " It's only "overdone" because you know it's there." Of course!!

Re: Owls

Thanks Mike. I shall rush to shop in village and buy an 8H, keep it sharp and think of you each and every time it touches the paper. Am now ducking over to "Graphite Indenting" in anxious anticipation of some further valuable discoveries. BTW my desk is an old drafting table (circa 1970) c...

Future Prospect

I could not resist drawing this eye , the original of which, as you probably know was the subject of M.C. Escher's brilliant mind. It offered such an opportunity to practice shading and texture. How this man managed to produce such quality work using the etching, engraving or lithographic process is...

Re: Owls

I agree Laurene. Indenting is problematic, not least because it is hard to keep track of the marks made by the stylus. The effects not truly visible until revealed by the overlaying graphite. Here I used ( experimentally) a selection of knitting needles and was reasonably happy with the results and ...

Could not resist "having a go" with this image of three nestlings. The inherent owlish "stare" is, unavoidable since the bird has a very narrow field of view with very little peripheral vision. They also see things primarily in monochrome. The subject matter was difficult to rend...

Re: My babies

I was so moved by the poem which expresses so sublimely so much of what I feel. I have printed it out and have it clipped to my drawing board. Thank you so much. I can imagine your problem with Photoshop. It is an excellent programme for professionals but for the likes of most of us, far too complex...

Re: My babies

Quite delightful illustrations, Peebee. For help in drawing your "white" dog, that is, drawing white on white refer to Mike's comments,(if you haven't already done so)where he makes clear that the white you are looking for is the paper itself; just draw the darks and the lights will look a...

Re: Hidden garden

An excellent idea, Laurene. Ask our illustrious illustration guru what he thinks of the suggestion!!
